VELCRO Facts Did you know? Did you know you can’t wear a pair of “velcro“ sandals? Or that you can’t use “velcro” to hold down your radar detector? How about that you can’t keep your jacket closed with “velcro”? In fact, did you know you can’t even buy a piece of “velcro”? What is “Velcro”? Velcro is the name of our companies and is a registered trademark for our products. It is not the generic name of the product that fastens shoes, pockets, and hundreds of other things. That product is generically known as “hook and loop fastener” or “touch fasteners”. Trademarks are symbols of a company’s quality and reputation. VELCRO brand Hook and Loop fastening tapes VELCRO brand polyamide fasteners consist of two mating components: hook and loop. The woven hook tape consists of minute, flexible “hooks” which engage with a mating loop tape comprised of small, soft “loops”. When pressed together, the resulting closure is adjustable and highly secure, available in a variety of different hook strength and cycle life characteristics. Features The Velcro companies offer a wide variety of loop tapes (both woven and knit velours). Napped and unnapped woven loops are available. Napped tape consists of woven polyamide loops that are “randomly disorientated” in a separate operation after weaving. An unnapped tape is a woven polyamide tape that is not napped. The knit velour tape is suitable for applications ranging from high cycle to disposable use and also provides a low profile fastening closure. Woven polyamide Hook and Loop Tapes The Velcro companies offer two polyamide woven hook tapes and a variety of loop tapes (both woven and knitted). VELCRO brand Hook 088: Heavy duty hook tape that utilises a heavier weight hook to maximise performance without minimising cycle-life. VELCRO brand Loop 001: A napped tape used in most standard closure applications with Hook 088. VEL-LOC: A “mushroom” hook tape that provides superior performance with knitted velour tapes. Velcro Product Information 1. Hi Air®- Flame resistant tape, woven from Nomex® Withstands temperatures up to 280 Deg F- meets F.A.A Regulation. Used on applications where high temperature closure is required – including foundry clothing, flight suits and even on insulation products on the Space Shuttle. 2. Vel-Stretch®- This loop material allows up to 55% elongation. Made of nylon and synthetic rubber, this plush backed tape is ideal for applications were comfort and a secure fit are desired – these include soccer shin pads, diving equipment and medical applications. 3. Self Adhesive Tapes- Velcro Brand®offers 5 types of pressure sensitive adhesive-including acrylic and flame retardant, solvent and heat-activated pre-coats. Our self-adhesives can withstand extremes of temperature from –20 deg F to 350 deg F. Adhesive backings are available across the range including the standard tapes, HTH range, Coins, Score cuts and Soft HardwareÒ. 4. Flame Retardant Nylon Hook and Loop Tapes- Available in standard and Self Adhesive backed material. Meeting strict Flammability regulations JAR 25853E. This product is available in several different colours and is used throughout the world in aircraft and vehicle interiors- including throughout the Space Shuttle cockpit and payload bay. 5. Hi-Garde®- Stainless Steel Hook and Loop- Get the flexibility and advantages of hook and loop combined with the corrosion and heat resistance of type 34 stainless steel. Made of woven stainless steel yarn, the tape withstands temperatures of up to 800 Deg F. Many are attached using sewing, adhesive bonding or spot welding.Please note this product is available on a 10 week lead time. 6. Ultra-Mate®Range- This range of High Technology Hooks (HTH) are engineered molded hook fasteners, which are available in a range of polymers. Which supply superior strength closure, UV, Acid, Flame and Moisture resistant. It can be fixed using high strength pressure adhesives, sewing, ultra sonic welding and RF sealing. Available in a wide variety of fabrications-including die cut shapes and custom manufactured straps. 7.
